The 2 Days Uganda gorilla safari from Rwanda Gisenyi lake kivu is an amazing gorilla trekking safari that starts from the beautiful Lakeside Town of Gisenyi near the border Town of Goma. The Safari involves trekking gorillas from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in south-western Uganda and ends in the beautiful City of Kigali.
Extending for 321 square kilometers, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was established in 1991 and is currently a biodiversity hot spot with over 120 species of mammals, more than 300 species of birds, about 200 butterfly species. With gorilla trekking being the main activity here, there are 20 habituated gorilla families thus over 160 gorilla permits are available per day for trekking within any of the four sectors (Rushaga, Ruhija, Nkuringo and Buhoma).
Day 1: Drive from Gisenyi to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
This day will start with an early breakfast at your place of residence, which will be followed by a pickup by 8:00am by your safari guide. Start the 4-5 hours transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a journey that will be characterized by breathtaking views of the lush rolling hills, the Virunga Volcanoes as well as the verdant countryside. Also, you will be moved by how locals (especially children) wave to visitors, women tend to their gardens or cattle grazing by the roadside.
Cross-over to Uganda through Chanika or Katuna border post and drive straight to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Receive a warm welcome at the Lodge and check-in to freshen-up, have Lunch and start the first activity on your itinerary. Head for the cultural tour that will reward you with the close interaction with the original inhabitants of Bwindi and Mgahinga forests before being gazetted into National Parks. You will be surprised to discover the forests used to be their homes (shelter), food basket and pharmacy (for traditional medicine). Later return to the Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Life-changing mountain gorilla trek and return to Kigali

Present your passport and gorilla permit for registration, briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking as well as being allocated to a gorilla family. All these processes end by 8am when the actual treks begin and last 2-6 hours, including the one hour in the presence of the mountain gorillas. Mountain gorillas are the main attraction during the trek but also keep an eye and ears widely open on the bird species, primates-chimpanzees, vervet monkeys as well as the black and white colobus monkeys that call this Park home.
